New York City Moments

My good friend Matt Anderson, whose blog is listed in my other blogs to check out, occasionally posts pictures of ridiculously dressed people (or just ridiculous people) in a recurring series on his blog which he calls "A Case of the Unfortunates." I've decided to start a recurring series of my own! It's not anything like "A Case of the Unfortunates." I'm calling it "NYC Moments" and it'll consist of memorable moments I catch around town. Hopefully I'll be able to get some pictures up if I'm quick enough to capture the moment.

Let's get it started.....

Paul is in town! Yesterday we walked around Union Square looking for a store called Jackrabbit which sells running, yoga, and swimming gear. Jackrabbit has this really cool process of picking out correct running shoes for people. You tell a sales associate where you experience pain in your body when you run or exercise and they pick out a few pairs of shoes for you. You then get up on a treadmill and they film you while you run. They then analyze your run and can apparently tell if the shoes they have picked out for you work or not. Anyway, that's not the point of the NYC moment! Paul picked some great shoes and soon enough we were headed back out into Union Square. We decided since it was a gray rainy day that we should head to the movie theatre nearby, so we popped open our umbrellas and headed off.

Walking through Union Square is usually pretty messy. Not Times Square messy, but messy enough! When it's raining it's 100 times worse. If you don't have an umbrella it's downright hellish. We were weaving our way through a wet crowd toward the movie theater when a small, soaked woman attempting to talk on her cell phone appeared right in front of us. She was a disheveled mess.....no umbrella, wet hair everywhere, make up running.....not looking so good. All of a sudden, a woman popped up out of nowhere right next to me. Then, as if it had been choreographed to happen this way, the mystery woman next to me handed the soaked woman an umbrella, and, without missing a beat, she grabbed it and kept walking. It was like an Olympic hand-off or something. The mystery woman and I kept walking in one direction while the soaked woman continued making her much drier way in the opposite direction behind us. I turned to her and told her how nice that had been of her. She then said, "Yeah, I was just looking for the person who looked like they needed it the most!"

NYC moments! Only in New York.

Anyway, Paul and I watched The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian. I thought it was pretty good, Paul......not so much. Oh! And there was a crazy guy in the audience who kept dancing and commenting about everything. That, unfortunately, is another "Only in New York" thing I have been getting used to.....crazy ass people EVERYWHERE.

Well, that's about it for now. Except for one very important thing I simply must mention........I GOT MADONNA TICKETS!!!!!!!!

October 4th, New Jersey, Madonna's first stop in the U.S. on her Sticky&Sweet Tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Me, my sister Andrea, my friend Ashley, my friend Aileen (who is coming all the way from San Francisco) and MADONNA!!!!!!!!!!!

A bad day.

I had a bad day today.

I ran into someone from school this morning at work. When he saw that I was wearing a Chelsea Studios shirt he asked me, "Do you work here?" I proudly responded "Yes!" He then said to me......

"Wow, you're a pro!"

For some strange reason that really irked me. Am I nuts to be so put off by something so pointless? He probably didn't even mean anything by it. He's a nice guy. Maybe it was just too early or something......

Anyway.

What really brought me down was the audition I had today for Big River. I ran into a friend of Paul's who had a great audition for it. They had asked him to sing two songs which is usually a really good sign.

When I got into line to wait my turn to sing I ran into a friend from school who is about to graduate. We chatted it up for a bit while we waited for the guy who was already singing in the audition room to finish up. The guy who was auditioning also sang two songs and was in the room for quite some time.......again, a good sign! Finally, he came out and my friend went in to sing before me. He has the most beautiful legit voice ever and, as I expected, was asked to sing a second song. Things were looking good, the auditioners seemed to really be taking their time to consider people. He came out and I went in. I headed straight to the accompanist, opened my rep book, and placed my song in front of him on the piano. He stared absently at my music so I sang a bit of it for him so he could get the tempo, but he just continued to stare without expression at the song. Finally, I realized that maybe my song choice may have been a bit too difficult to play for an audition so I said sorry. He then finally just said, "GO!" Yikes. I jumped back and stood in front of the auditioners. I announced my song and off I went. Thankfully, the song came out great. I interpreted it well, I hit my notes, everything I wanted to happen happened. Till I was done. I finished, smiled, and they said "Thanks, Jonathan. That was great." No second song.

Not so good.

Well, you can't win them all.

Ugh.

But you know what cheers me up? MOTORBOAT PICTURES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is my friend Ryan Lammer. He's great. We're partners in crime at Chelsea Studios. This is his best Motorboat. Pretty damn good.

He knows a different version of Motorboat, though, in which you shake your head back and forth really fast. Kinda like you're saying NO! with a lot of passion and gusto. The first pic came out all blurry but still kinda cool looking.

This one, though, is priceless. Doesn't it kinda look like I slapped him and happened to take a picture at the same time? That's called talent, people.

Bye now. I love you all.

Bored.

I'm bored. Are you bored? Yes? Good! Watch this then......

That was Barbra singing Cry Me a River. I realize that I already posted a Barbra video awhile ago but this time I refuse to apologize for it! I saw my sister this past weekend and she said she hated it how I was kind of apologizing for enjoying certain things by mentioning how 'gay' they were. She's absolutely right. That Barbra performance is so gay it's practically rainbow colored and I love it. Love love love it. She's so incredibly dramatic and into it. Plus, I'm pretty sure she was a teenager at the time......uh-mazing.

Let's move on.

Babs again. Same song. I just can't get over how gorgeous she looks, though. And this time she is thoroughly freaking out. Diary of a mad Jewish woman.

Still with me?

Janis. Ridiculous. I've never much listened to her but this is just preposterous incredible fabulousness.

That's all for now.

Oh yeah.....Madonna's going on tour again. The Sticky&Sweet Tour, actually. Note to self: Start saving up NOW!

Love you all. Bye!
